It showcased local designers and some from the region under the theme “Fashion Through The Ages” paying homage to the creativity that was put in this art over the centuries. Likewise the designers who were in the Young Designers Competition each created clothing that represented a certain decade or era to show their prowess.

Sarudzai Murungu stood out as the winner of the young designers competition which included other young designers like,  Annie Enelesi Maliki, Natasha Mubare,  Venus Mushapaidzi, Praise Chikata, Tanaka Leroy Samukange, Graham Larry Chabvamupero, Claudia and Nomphumelelo. They were excited about the exposure they got and they got to showcase on stage alongside the models that wore their attires. The event management as far as appearance and décor was good but sticking to the schedule seemed to be a problem at the shows I attended I hope they improve on that.

The Zimbabwe fashion Week also allowed designers to have stands were they could sell, these were not necessarily the same as those in the competition. There were many but the ones I managed to meet were “I Love Zim” from Zim Local Corp. I had a little chat with the founder Rumbidzai Manzou before looking at the Lady Targaryen stand. Lady Targaryen is a company that creates “100% Leather bags with class” , their director is Takunda Mujuru. They can tailor make any bag design even if you showed them a magazine picture (I don’t know if that’s allowed) but I was very impressed by their showcase. You can view their blog http://ladytargaryen.tumblr.com  and view the “I Love Zim “ website as well http://www.zimlocal.com . Note that these are external links.

Zimbabwe Fashion Week has been alive for 4 years, founded by Priscilla Chigariro-Gessen in October 2009. Its purpose to create platforms for Zimbabwean designers is being fulfilled as it has become a well funded event by corporations and embassies, local and international. “The showcase attracts an enthusiasts assortment fashion, designers, models, buyers, corporate  entertainers, exhibitors and fashion forward creatives from all over the world. “ according to their website.
