Harare Headlining at the Hootananny Brixton

Zimlink caught up with virtuoso Kudaushe Matimba and his band Harare this month at the Hootananny Brixton. Many famous and talented artists have graced the stage at Brixton’s hottest music venue. In a class of their own the Harare line up is not one to be missed Kuda mix’s old school Zim vibes with the fire beat of new Zim dance-hall to create a fusion.

Kuda Lead vocalist, multi-instrumentalist playing both the marimba and mbira on the night. His style holding the band together unifying the crowd in to a frenzy of dance and excitement, opening minds to the sounds of Zimbabwe fusion.

Tony Dudu on lead guitar sent waves of high energy into the crowd, this guy was on point man he can play. 

John Nyahodya on drums pumped life in to the into the hearts Brixton, The Victorian walls of the hootanannay shaking… absorbing every beat.

On Bass guitar Mashasha, bass in his blood his sound and rhythm define Modern afro-beat and beyond. Some musicians play an instrument for those rare few the instruments and artists are one and the same as with Harare.

Zimbabwe produces some of the greatest talents in the world, setting a standard where ever Zim’s perform. Rich in musical history, with a diverse knowledge of international music Zimbabwe powers the heart of Sub Saharan Africa. Harare gives a nod to the past whilst embracing the future. Kuda encompasses a wealth of emotion into his work, a tapestry of love life death and hope in every song the soul of humanity lies.
