An African woman’s story was once said to not be complete without the mention of posts and pans, child bearing and housekeeping. Gone are the days of narrow minds and limited possibilities and as years passed the world has witnessed the birth of the unlimited women. Such an example was witnessed at Glenview 3 Primary school grounds with the match between Maningi Queens representing the Northern Region and Millennium from Mavuku. Kick off was at 2:30pm.
Maningi Queens take in any young lady who is willing and able to take part. The only restrictions that the children face is support from the communities and family. This was seen with the numbers of spectators that were there cheering on the players.
Coach T (Tamari Chininga) once a player herself now is the only female coach for the team. She shares in some of the girls struggles as she had to face some of the difficulties during her time. She provides not only soccer skills for the young ladies but also life skills as well.
This is the second year for Maningi football academy and they are still looking for sponsors as they have challenges that they face for example the lack in shooters, medical/first aid kit and personnel and also sanitary products.
They use Glenview 3 primary school grounds for training and in exchange they provide toiletries and teach Glenview 3 primary school students how to play soccer. Maningi academy has the possibility to offer its participants scholarships for students with 5 o’levels or better. Although Maningi queens is a girls team the academy carters for both girls and boys and helps promote good sportsmanship among the students.
1st goal was scored by Maningi queens in about 8 minutes into the game but millennium balanced it out in the second half. Stoppage time saw the game end 1-1 both sides feeling that they could have done better and eager to finish it off once the leagues starts.
